Maybe it is the camera I use too taking dark photos. I will run them through photoshop after too, the image on flickr I couldn't get much out of on there so its good to know about the curves and little bits I missed on the scanner settings. Can you also please tell me where I change the bit colour I seem to remember setting it to 48 but I would like to make sure it is right. I haven't touched the curves or any of those settings with the little icons. Kinematic Digit edited this topic ages ago. I believe the problem with the scan software is that it doesn't interpolate the information very well when making adjustments so what happens is you contend with really bad digital gain which creates your noise. Keep them level as possible and then take it into something like Lightroom or Photoshop to deal with it. I find that if you adjust your levels too much in the software settings the images look noisy. Adjust afterwards in your favourite photo editor software and it should be fine. I'd also adjust your tone curve just a little (not a lot) and make sure you scan for 48 bit colour. Regardless of that, I would certainly if you're using the stock software that came with the scanner, to use the Backlight correction (in advanced mode) for the lighter image. Did you make a contact print of both of these for comparison? Both images look challenging at best to begin with as one is on the lighter side, while the other on the darker side. Sorry if i'm being stupid and a time waster!Īlso any tips for less dusty negs? On other scanners I don't seem to have a problem i really don't know where it all comes from though when I use this scanner. If someone could please tell me all of the settings they have theirs set to or send me a screen print or something it would make my day. Mine is very dark and my friends is really grainy, small and low quality. I've uploaded an image of mine and one my friend took.

I used to use the one at university but I was always fighting to get at it and I know its a lot more expensive than this one but I still would have thought I would have got something a little better than what I am getting. I scan on a high resolution but am not getting very good results. I don't know if its just me being silly but I feel like my images are coming out too dark and quite grainy or low quality sometimes. Recently brought this scanner after saving up and feel really disheartened with the results.
